How a lash serum works
Lash serums work by nourishing the eyelashes and promoting hair growth. All serums work to promote growth during the period you use them, but they work in different ways. However, the results you get from the serum will not last a lifetime if you stop. No lash serum works like that. This is because the hair follicles in the eyelashes, just like regular hair on the head, have a LIMITED lifespan. Losing lashes is a natural part of the growth cycle. Each lash is at a different stage of the growth cycle, which is why you don't lose them all at once. eyelashes are constantly growing and renewing themselves and it takes about 4-8 weeks for a lash to grow out.
Can I lose lashes if I stop using the serum?
The different types of lash serums available are peptide-based, vitamin-based and prostaglandin-derived. Hickap's Lash serum is primarily peptide-based, which means that you will NOT experience loss of lashes when you stop, which you may experience with Prostaglandin-derived. The Swedish Medical Products Agency advises consumers against using products containing prostaglandin analogs as you can suffer serious side effects. Hence, this substance is not found in Hickap's Lash&Brow Serum which is manufactured in Sweden.
Please read on below for a better understanding of the different types of lash serum available! Eyelash serums fall into three main categories based on their main active ingredients:
Peptide-based (like Hickap's)
Peptides are small proteins that stimulate hair follicle growth and promote natural hair production. By applying a peptide-based lash serum to the fringe, you can stimulate the follicles to grow more hair. These types of lash serums provide the same growth as prostaglandin-derived eyelash serums do, but with far fewer side effects. Hickap Lash & brow Serum is a peptide-based serum. The key ingredients are powerful peptides, allantoin, green caviar from algae and high and low molecular weight hyaluronic acid. The skin conditioning properties come from marine Antarcticine which helps to rebuild and strengthen the delicate skin around the eye.
Vitamin-based
Vitamin-based eyelash growth serums work by moisturizing the lashes from the outside in. By moisturizing the lashes with vitamins, you can prevent them from breaking or falling off. As a result, lashes become longer and healthier. While these eyelash serums don't work as well at promoting hair growth, they do an incredible job at improving the condition of your eyelashes.
Prostaglandin-derived
The good news about prostaglandin-derived lash serums is that they work for most people. The bad news is that the side effect tends to outweigh the result. These plant serums are derived from drugs that were originally developed to treat an eye condition called glaucoma. This type of lash serum works by artificially expanding the anagen phase of hair growth on the eyelashes.
Although effective, these eyelash serums tend to have serious side effects and negative side effects such as;
- Reduced eye pressure if the lash serum enters the eye
- Darkening of the eyelids
- Color changes of the iris (for example, blue eyes can turn brown!)
- Unwanted hair growth in areas other than the eyelashes
- Itching, swelling, inflammation and redness
Because prostaglandin-derived lash serums have such serious side effects, both the Swedish Medicines Agency and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have issued warnings against them.
We hope that this has answered all your questions and that you feel confident and excited about using Hickap's Lash & Brow Serum which is a safe and effective lash and brow serum!
